By SYMONE SEVEN

After watching this video, go ahead and put Makeup Artist in your Instagram Bio. I promise you’ll feel like an artist on another level once you learn how to fix any makeup mishap. Tune in to find out how I fix makeup in photoshop.

HOW TO EDIT MAKEUP

  1. Create a layer copy with the keyboard shortcut COMMAND J

  2. Press COMMAND + to zoom in on the photo (COMMAND - to zoom out)

  3. Lash Gap Fix:  Use the QUICK SELECTION TOOL to select the whole eye, copy and paste it (COMMAND C followed  by COMMAND V), click on it to activate the MOVE TOOL and drag the border down to cover the gap, erase the excess eye with the ERASE TOOL, and then use the BURN TOOL with 10% on the SHADOWS settings on the lash line to darken it.

  4. Patchy Brow Fix: Use the BRUSH TOOL on a semi-hardness and 15% opacity and tiny size, sample the brow hairs color with OPTION and paint in the eyebrow hairs that are missing

  5. Under Eye fix: Select the under eye area, copy and paste it (COMMAND C and COMMAND V), click and drag it into place to cover the creases, click the LAYER MASK BUTTON to create a layer mask, invert the mask with COMMAND I shortcut, and use BRUSH TOOL to paint with WHITE to cover the crease.

  6. Dodge and burn the eyeshadow to intense the look (tutorial linked below)

My advice to retouching makeup is to pay attention to detail. It’s better to make many ittle tweaks that add up to make a difference, than to make huge changes that look unnatural.

Photoshop Vs World’s Worst Brows

By SYMONE SEVEN

Watch me go head to head wih the “World’s Worst Eyebrows.” Just for fun let’s see if I can take this brow from a hell no to a yessss! Stick around to also pick up a trick or two like how to reshape eyebrows.

HOW TO RESHAPE BROWS IN PHOTOSHOP

  1. Create a layer copy with keyboard shortcut COMMAND J

  2. Go to the FILTER TAB at the top of the screen on Photoshop’s menu panel

  3. Use the HAND TOOL to push and pull the eyebrows into place

My tip is to erase the areas that may have warped due to the hand tool on the background layer copy.

How can I edit makeup in photoshop?

By SYMONE SEVEN

This is an all inclusive guide to fixing some of the most common issues I run across when retouching makeup. In this overview, get a glimpse of how I fix the most complicated problems simply and efficiently.

HOW TO EDIT MAKEUP IN PHOTOSHOP?

  4. Thick Brows Fix: Go to the FILTER TAB at the top of the screen on Photoshop’s menu panel. Then use the HAND TOOL to push and pull the eyebrows into place.

  5. Blotchy Foundation Fix: Setup Frequency Separation and click lightly go over the face with the MIXER BRUSH (on all 26% settings) sampling everytime you move to a new area,

  6. Under Eye Crease Fix: While still on Frequency separation, choose the CLONE STAMP TOOL (on 100% all settings and a tiny size) and sample a clean area with OPTION, and click to cover the crease.

My advice as a photographer is to network with local talented  makeup artists and build a rapport with them. This way you can build a referral list to send to your clients to ensure you have makeup on set that doesn’t require so much time in post. It’s also a win win because those makeup artists will also recommend clients to you and help with portfolio shoots if the relationship beneficial for all.

How to fix a lash that’s falling off in Photoshop?

By SYMONE SEVEN

Makeup malfunctions are all too common that come up when retouching. We don’t always have the luxury of having a professional makeup artist on set to keep an eye out for those types of things. As photographers, sometimes we have to play MUA in Photoshop. Here is a quick fix video on how to get those fallen false lashes into place!

HOW TO FIX FALLEN LASHES IN PHOTOSHOP

  1. Use the QUICK SELECTION TOOL to select the lash that’s not falling off (and the surrounding skin) by clicking and dragging over it.

  2. Press COMMAND C to copy the selection and COMMAND V to paste it

  3. While it’s still selected, go to the EDIT tab at the top of the screeen, select TRANSFORM near the bottom of the menu, then FLIP HORIZONTAL to redirect the lash in the right position

  4. Click the lash selection and place in over top of the fallen lash

  5. Apply a layer Mask to this selection by pressing the LAYER MASK BUTTON in the LAYER potion at the bottom,

  6. Invert the layer mask by pressing COMMAND I

  7. Use your BRUSH TOOL on a high opacity and semi hardness to paint WHITE to reveal the new lash you placed

  8. Blend the selection seamlessly ito the photo. Paint with BLACK on the layer mask to erase any unwanted areas.

This issue is obviously best fixed during the shoot but sometimes we’re moving too fast. I do suggest however while you’re shooting to get in a habit of every so often zooming in on the eye in the playback photo to avoid issues like this and to check your focus.
